How many guests can a charter yacht carry?
Twelve guests overnight. A commercially registered yacht below 500 gross tons carries a maximum of twelve sleeping guests, however large she is — so a 50-metre and a 30-metre have the same ceiling at night. For a day event at anchor or alongside, the number is far higher and set by the yacht’s own certificate.
This one rule shapes more charters than any other. A family of fourteen cannot simply take a bigger boat; they take two yachts, or a yacht with a day-guest arrangement, or they split the week. Conversely, a group of eight on a 45-metre is not wasting the space — the extra length buys deck area, crew and stability, not berths.
Day charters are the flexible case. A yacht moored on Port Hercule for the Grand Prix, or at anchor off Monte-Carlo for a celebration, can host thirty or fifty people if her certificate allows and the crew is scaled to match. That is how most corporate days and wedding receptions on the water are run here, and it is a different conversation from a sleeping charter.
